Family Weekend Craft Sale...Fail + Dad's & Jen's Birthday Celebrations! | #WeeklyWednesday

So, part of the reason for my recent blog hiatus was due to school + the disappointment that was the Family Weekend Craft Sale at SIUC. I don't want to "bash" the event, per say, but given my years of experience in participating...this year was a MAJOR disappointment and I do not plan to return to it.

The reasons I think it failed are:
- dropped new student enrollment = fewer customers
- customers are not actually "customers", more like passer-bys
Ergo, no one really actually wants to buy things and no one is inclined to do so.

I love participating in craft shows and sharing what I do with people who've never seen it.
It's really fun for me because not everyone that KNOWS what I do is particularly enthusiastic about it, and some, frankly, think I'm better off doing something else with my time or just DON'T CARE.

So when a show sucks as much as this last one did...well, it's a bummer.
It just causes the creative juices to drain and it takes a while to replenish.

*update*
Dad kindly took some photos, so here they are :)

------------------------------------------

With regards to school, here is a list of some of the assignments I have from different classes (in no particular order):

This Week:
- 5 minute video lesson (+ editing)
- at least 100+ pages of combined textbook readings
- reflective "posts" on class forums
etc.

Semester Long:
- quizzes
- Video game related screen capture
- 30 minute filmed video lesson (+ editing)

- 30 minute powerpoint + voice over lesson (+ editing)
- ~14 page paper on Game Narrative Analysis
- game narrative class prototypes (physical paper form and programmed computer form)
etc.

As is probably painfully obvious right now, I would definitely appreciate your prayers :)
Mondays and Tuesdays are the worst. I have classes 3-6pm and 7-8pm on Mondays (I'm shutting down by around 5:30pm...) and Tuesdays, I have class from 1-6:30pm.

For those in the know...if you're scratching your head wondering why the number of creative projects I'm working on seems to be increasing despite my busy schedule, it's because creating things and generating new ideas is my escape from reality lol

Daddy's Birthday
Now, on to happier topics, who DOESN'T like birthdays? :)
We celebrated Daddy's birthday last week, as well as one of my best friends from my high school days, Jen!

How did Dad end up making his own steaks?! lol

Dinner was ORIGINALLY supposed to be okonomiyaki (which Dad actually wanted originally), but it ended up being steak with stuff. Dad made steak (I helped season it) and then I stir fried up some mushrooms in garlic butter. NOT your standard stir fry, mind you, this stuff is flippin' delicious and I'm pretty good at making it.

Group photo

We had Sayaka-nee and my American bro, David, over to celebrate Dad. It's a bit weird with Ash gone, no?

Jen's Birthday
Jen and I have known each other since our freshman year of high school.
HOW FAR WE'VE COME, GIRL. HOW FAR WE'VE COME.

We had a lovely breakfast (my treat, of course) at our local Carbondale Harbaugh's.
I got her a myriad of things, but the one I was THE MOST excited about was the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette by Too Faced. I had heard lots of good things (including the smell), and when Ulta had it on its SPECIALS list when I stopped by, I HAD to get it for her.

How PERFECT was it that her autumn themed shirt LITERALLY matched the palette?

We also took a trip down memory lane (figuratively) and walked down the strip (downtown Carbondale) to QQ, all the way down to the Amtrak before we turned around to head back to our cars. In QQ, there's a picture that had been drawn by a mutual friend of ours, moniker Panda, that's still there to this day. I think it's been there since freshman year, so that's fun lol XD

I've got a SUPER exciting thing for this #FeatureFriday.

Home Free is TIMELESS and I'm Home Fry for LIFE | #MusicMonday

If you hadn't heard of Home Free before my bass-battle sing-off, you. are. missing. OUT!

For those who don't know, I essentially grew up thinking that country music was...well, ICK.

It was one of those things that "my parents" listened to in the car, which thereby made me tire of it REAL quick (you know how it is).

But when I discovered my love of a cappella, I discovered Home Free.
I KID YOU NOT, these guys single-handedly made me love country music, but hilariously, only theirs. lol XD I can't hear a song that they've covered without singing THEIR version, and then the funniest look will appear on my face whenever the song "deviates" (which is funny, because HF did the cover, not the original haha XD) from what I know.

That said, if you've heard me say ANYTHING country music related or sing anything country music related that made sense or was remotely accurate, Home Free gets all the credit for that. lol XD These men are supremely talented, they're so real and so funny, and though I have yet to meet them in person, that is DEFINITELY on the bucket list.

Disclaimer: I first started listening to them when Chris Rupp (the founder) was still part of the group. He has since left on to pursue solo projects and Adam Chance has taken his place.

-----------------------------------------

Originally from Minnesota, Home Free has made their mark, predominantly, as the world's first country a cappella band. They have TONS of show experience, having performed thousands of shows over the years and across the country ever since they started in 2000.

They won Season 4 of NBC's The Sing Off in 2013. Their founder, Chris Rupp (Adam's brother) left the group I think last year, and Adam Chance has joined them since.

They are very barbershop quartet (+ beatbox) in their format, but all of the singers have sung the lead before, not just Austin (the lead tenor).

From left to right: Rob, Chance, Tim, Austin, Adam

Here's a basic breakdown of (the current) Home Free and their roles for those who don't know:
Austin Brown - lead tenor

Adam Chance (aka Chance to keep from confusing him with the other Adam) - baritone harmony
Tim Foust - bass
Robert Lundquist - tenor harmony
Adam Rupp - beatboxing

They all have formal musical training. Rob and the Rupps have B.As in music. Adam R. actually plays the trumpet primarily, but he also pla
ys drums, keyboard, and bass guitar (and obviously beat-boxes). Tim and Austin also do a lot of the writing and arranging.
Home Free isn't your "boy band", you can be sure of that.

Here's a general list of their ages (straight from their site):
- Austin 1986
- Chance 1984
Tim 1981
- Rob 1983
- Adam 1982

The main reason I'm sharing about Home Free here and now is because they have a new album called "Timeless" out now, so you should go gra
b yourself a copy of the country a cappella goodness.

-----------------------------------------

Here's a song (one of my faves) from their new album, Blue Ain't Your Color (originally by Keith Urban). Also, I love Home Free's arrangements. Let's just get that out of the way. The following list is just what SPECIFICALLY (aside from their norm) I liked in this video.

My favorite parts of this song were:
- the sharply dressed country boys (because who are we kidding, they look great) on an absolutely fab background of shiny lol XD

- the little pieces of blue that are peppered through their outfits
- TIM. ALWAYS TIM.
- the dancing. the DANCING!! They NEVER DANCE!!!
- the higher toned "oooh"s that Austin's busting out
- the silhouettes and lighting changes throughout
- TIM AT THE END. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH <3

GET IT HERE!

Give Me Suggestions! | Disney Villain Impressions | Brizzy Voices + Peter Hollens | #FeatureFriday

Cute villain 8-bits I found online :D

This is a different #FeatureFriday than usual, because...I'm planning to create a Disney Villains impressions video! This week's feature is more to give you an idea of what I'll be doing and what you can expect.

Comment below with the Disney villain you'd like me to impersonate and (if you want) the scene that you want me to say the lines from!

Please have it in the following format: "(name of villain) | (scene/line)"

For example:
Cruella De Vil | The scene where she creepily appears in the doorway and says "FIFTEEN".

I will do my best to include all suggestions, but please forgive me if I leave out some from movies that I don't know (because I don't want to imitate a Disney villain I don't know and have it be COMPLETELY WRONG).

Let's do this together!! :D
The plan right now is that I will release it over Thanksgiving break, just as a thank you to all the friends I have who support my Disney villain loving habits :P

Here's an example of what I'll probably do: (this is by the talented Brizzy Voices)

Also, please note that male villains will probably end up being 1) a joke or 2) slightly higher pitched, but it'll still be funny because I love doing stuff like it lol XD

Also, I'm not doing a singing medley, but something like THIS would be cool at some point in life, no? I think I could do it...with help. ...Lots of help lol XD

Share this post with your friends and get their suggestions too! :P
The more the merrier! Thank you! <3

Any and all input is highly appreciated!!
See you next #MusicMonday! :)
